Happy 11th!!

A very special dog turned 11 years old today.  She's been in our lives for nearly the entire time we've known each other. She was our child before we had children.  She's freakishly healthy and athletic for her age...and she's not entirely comfortable standing on a table to enjoy a doggie ice cream in peace to celebrate...

...and she wouldn't want to celebrate without letting her little brother have some...

Free

If anybody is looking for a rag swallowing, furniture chewing, towel stealing mini-horse, I'll gladly give him to you for free.  The only caveat is you either have to meet Sophie in an alley where she'll tell you a secret location to get him or you have to provide shelter for me once Meggan and the kids kick me out of the house for giving away their buddy. Sophie and I are good with it either way.

Lucky Guess

Everett: Daddy, I bet you can't guess what my painting is

Me: Uhhhh, is it a rainbow?

Everett: Aww, man, you DID guess it!

I know what you're thinking....yes, I'm an amazing guesser...

Close Call

We weren't the only ones on the island this weekend. I saw this guy about 30 feet away on my bike ride....

and this guy on a walk on the beach......

....so, yeah, we pretty much went on a survival challenge... you know, except for the room service, drinks delivered poolside, and the butler setting up our beach chairs in his suit.

Ready

I just received a video of my kids and their Grandpa dancing their tails off to the Jungle Book.  I think it's safe to say there will be nothing but disappointment on their faces when we make them head home tomorrow.  As a parent, this let's me know I'm doing my job.

Reversal

The kids are partying their heads off at Grandma and Grandpa's house.  Meggan and I just ordered room service dessert.  This is quite a reversal from our situation last week.

Back to Back

Yesterday was a day with back to back doctor's appointments. First, Amelia found out her ear drum ruptured. Then, Sophie went for her senior well check only to find out she has a grade 3 heart murmur.  Neither of those were things we were hoping to hear.  So yeah, these two ladies have had better days.

Honest Ev

Everett is a guy who calls them like he sees them. To see this in action, look no further than the name he gave his most recent artwork hanging in his classroom...

Slick Lick

Sophie used to be the queen of the castle.  She did what she wanted to do when she wanted to do it.  Now, thanks to her new friend, Teddy, things have changed a bit.  Now, she lives a life that includes getting licked clean by a 70lb ogre to the point she has this new slick, comb-over hairdo....

Digging Out

This week was one of those weeks that couldn't end fast enough.  It was the kind of week that included the flu, a ruptured eardrum, more days with a doctor visit than days without one, sleepless nights, more work than could be completed, and a postponed vacation.  So, yeah, the blog got a little behind.

New Toy

Teddy found a new toy last night.  Unfortunately, I don't think it is 100% veterinarian or owner approved...

Tent

Everett just got over a week long virus. Amelia has spiked a fever for 2 days. Meggan coughed so hard today I thought she was going to need a lung transplant. I just started sneezing to go with my headache. Does anyone know if they make a termite tent for your house that shoots out NyQuil and Lysol?

Day One

Today was day one of the soccer season. Amelia had a doubleheader and Everett got to play in his first ever soccer game. The final outcome was 1 win, 1 loss, and 1 hour of 5 year-old chaos....

Down and Out

My big boy is still recovering from what the doctor called "possibly the flu" and my really big puppy apparently has an ear infection.  Any volunteers to help wrestle Everett off the Nintendo so he can rest or serve as a chew toy while Teddy gets EIGHT drops in each ear would be appreciated.

Sunroof

If there is an easier way to entertain kids than let them stand and look out the sunroof, I haven't come across it.....

Circumstantial

Shoes have mysteriously disappeared in our house over the past few months.  There are no leads as to what is happening to them.  You'll simply go to put on your favorite pair and one, if not both, will no longer be where you left them.  Oftentimes, when you do find them, they have been vandalized by slobber and occasionally have bite marks.. Today, I think I may have gotten a major break in the case.  I'm sure in a court of law, this evidence would be considered circumstantial.  That said, this house is no court of law.

Message

With all of today's technology, we are always only a few button clicks away from our children.  We are fortunate enough that we get to hear from Everett's teachers each day.  This is the kind of message a parent can't receive enough of.....
