Report Cards

The kids got their final report cards for the year today.  As I expect of them, they both did marvelously.  With Everett now in the report card mix, it is interesting to see the differences in the two kids.  Everett dominated math, could use a little work on his writing.  Amelia reads like an adult, but needs to work on her math recall speed.  Amelia's teacher described her as a leader of her peers.  Ev's teacher said he misses directions because he's busy flapping his lips....okay, I paraphrased that last one, but it's what she meant.  Either way, I couldn't be more proud of my kiddos.

No Competition

When it comes to the kids deciding whether they want to be at home or at Grandma and Grandpa's house, it's really no competition.  Just yesterday, they drove the buggy around the farm, swam in the pool, played football outside, played Nintendo inside, and made homemade ice cream ... how am I going to compete with that???

Manly

Everett's manly Friday went like this ....

Competing at Field Day for the last day of school
Going with me to the car parts store so we could change the battery in my car
Having lunch at Hooter's
Going to see Solo: A Star Wars Story
"Driving" my car around our neighborhood

In case you're wondering..... yes, he woke up Saturday with a five o'clock shadow and chest hair.

Last Day

How in the world can tomorrow be the last day of school??  I'm sure the kids would disagree, but this year has flown by.  Everett is a half-day away from being a first grader!  I can't even discuss the fact that Amelia is going into fourth grade....and I really don't want to discuss what kind of things fourth graders get into these days.  Is it completely unethical for a dad to hold his kids back a year in school if they are successful by all measures?  What about two years?  Now, that is worth discussing.

In the Books

Another soccer season is officially in the books.  Both kids tasted far more victory than defeat.  They also both survived having me as their coach.  I'd say those are two pretty strong accomplishments...accomplishments they will likely repeat next year now that Amelia has declined the offer to move to club soccer.

Acceptance is Key

Amelia was very happy to see the following email today....

"Thank you for attending CSA Soccer Academy Tryouts and congratulations! We are offering you a spot on the 2009/U10 CSA Youth Academy team for the 2018-2019 season."

...and I was happy to see her get rewarded for having the courage to give it a shot.

Competing

Somewhere in this group of 40-50 girls is my sweet Amelia.  She is trying out to be one of the lucky ones selected to the club soccer team.  This is her first foray into trying something where failure is a very legitimate option.  Will she be one of the last standing after 4 hours of evaluations?  I don't know and I really don't care.  I couldn't be any more proud of her just for going out there and giving it her best.

Party Animal

Everett got to go to a birthday party at the Panther's stadium this weekend.  It was the rare occasion where the party was fun both the kids and the parents....

today is mothers day and we are planning our biggest surprise ever. We are hiding the presents and on each present will be the clue to the next present. We will make it easier by giving her a clue to start with . She will be so happy . I have been asking a  few questions I think she is going to love a little fun around the house. A good break from cleaning. We have 8 presents and 8 clues . She will have so much fun on a little fun hunt around  the house.

Seeing Clearly

A couple headaches landed this little guy in the eye doctor's office.  Despite the fact that I may or may not have told him they were going to pop out his eyeballs, rinse them in a special rinse, and put them back, he was a very brave boy.  He also apparently has much, much better eyesight than his father as some of the letters he was naming off looked like ants walking across the screen to me.  Maybe I need to go have my eyeballs rinsed???

Brrrrrrr

Today, the Heavens opened and the angels descended upon our house.  I, of course, am talking about the air conditioning installers.  After 3 warm weeks, we are finally back among the artificially cooled. Tonight, to celebrate, we are bundling up and turning our house into a subzero freezer.

Missed A Spot

Everett, who is learning to care for himself more and more,  poked his head out of the shower and asked "Daddy, did I miss any spots?" ..... ummmmm, maybe one...

Heating Up

Tomorrow will be Day 20 of us being without an air conditioner.  I understand many people live without air conditioning...but, those people are tough. We are not. We are hot. We are cranky.  And I am going to try to sleep in the refrigerator.

Actions

They say actions speak louder than words.  I'd say this midnight scene Tucker and I found is saying despite Amelia constantly complaining about Everett coming into her bed.....she just might appreciate a little snuggle buddy from time to time...
